Quatrains on Grace

This week I am sharing 2 poems that express God’s grace to us in such a beautiful way. The first is titled ‘The Cross’ by John Newton and the other, ‘Confidant’ by Vicki Plaster Baird. My song for the week is “Forever Yours” by Gateway Worship.

The Cross
In evil long I took delight,
Unawed by shame or fear,
Till a new object struck my sight,
And stopped my wild career.

I saw One hanging on a tree,
In agonies and blood;
He fixed His languid eyes on me,
As near His cross I stood.

Sure never till my latest breath,
Shall I forget that look!
It seemed to charge me with His death,
Though not a word He spoke.

A second look He gave, which said,
"I freely all forgive;
This blood is for thy ransom paid;
I die that thou mayest live."

Thus while His death my sin displays
In all its blackest hue,
Such is the mystery of grace,
It seals my pardon too!
- John Newton

Confidant
There's but One to Whom I pour my heart
The Lord and Him alone
His eye sees every secret part
To Him each frailty known

I delight that God, my precious Friend
My Redeemer and my Guide
Has plucked me out from those condemned
That I may be His bride

Pure and spotless before my God
In Christ I am now seen
No blemish does He find in me
His blood has made me clean
